Former comedy titan Eddie Murphy gives a surprisingly mediocre performance that makes it seem like he's just getting paid. Even worse is the supporting cast, whose consistently poor acting leaves you wondering how these scenes got past the first take.
Tim Story, the director, doesn't seem to know what he wants to make. Is it similar to Ocean's Eleven in terms of heisting? A car chase movie like the F&F series or an action comedy like Bad Boys? A comedy that isn't funny and a thriller that isn't thrilling are the results of the film's awkward straddling of both genres without making a commitment to either.
The chemistry between Murphy and Davidson is consistently strained and unnatural. What should have been an enjoyable game between two unsuitable people turns into a boring exercise in mediocrity.
