About

On the morning of August 27, 1992, 13-year-old Leigh Occhi woke up in her Tupelo, Mississippi home. It was a Thursday. She was excited because her friend was coming over later to work on a school project. Her mother, Margaret "Meg" Occhi, had left for work around 7:30 a.m. Leigh was home alone, which was normal for her.

By 8:45 a.m., Meg had tried calling home twice. No answer. This worried her because Leigh was supposed to be there waiting for her friend. Meg left work and drove home. When she arrived, she found the front door unlocked—which was unusual—and discovered blood in multiple places: on the bathroom door, in the hallway, and throughout the house. Leigh was gone.

What makes this case particularly haunting is the weather. Hurricane Andrew was passing through the area that morning. Winds were gusting over 70 miles per hour. The storm was so loud that neighbors later said they heard nothing unusual from the Occhi home.

Leigh Occhi has never been found. She would be 46 years old today
