Physicians have been sold out by the system, and there's no one teaching doctors the business of medicine. Physicians are uniquely set up to fail because, for one, they learn to do it all on their own. But as a small business-minded entrepreneur, Dr. Edwin Williams knows that there's a smarter, more effective way to succeed from the moment grad school is over to the opportunities that follow, like opening profit centers, a surgery center, and a practice. In this podcast, physician entrepreneurs (and future physician entrepreneurs or other professionals) can learn to think like a small business person, develop an organic culture, understand the importance of planning, and acquire with purpose, ultimately turning the road before them into a path to not only success but also happiness. Dr. Williams is a doctor of academic distinction, holding two Board certifications - in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as well as Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery. His wealth of clinical experience dates back to 1993 with the founding of Williams Center Plastic Surgery Specialists as a Facial Plastic Surgeon and now has a practice limited to Facial Rejuvenation and Rhinoplasty. Under his leadership he functions as the founding member , primary shareholder and managing partner of the 21,000 square foot facility equipped with a free standing ambulatory surgery center which has grown to several associates, partners, a staff of over 75 with continued growth including a recent acquisition of Saratoga Hair Transplant Center. Through his efforts as a serial entrepreneur he continues to attract the interest of Private Equity and Business Leaders in the field of Aesthetic Medicine. From the public’s perspective, Dr. William’s talents are well-known from Albany to Manhattan, but his reputation extends far beyond. He has been featured on national televisions programs, Print publication such as Glamour, Modern Aesthetics, Plastic Surgery Products, NewBeauty, New York Times, Shape, USA Today, Wallstreet Journal, and others frequently feature his expertise. At a peer level, Dr. Williams presents at national and international conferences. He served on the Board of Directors for the American Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery for over a decade and served as President from 2015-2016. In 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019, Dr. Williams earned the Castle Connelly Top Doctors award in New York for Facial Plastic Surgery. He has been an active member of Entrepreneur Organization for over a decade and has been passionate teaching business to physicians and other professionals. Dr. Williams speaks at medical associations and has authored textbooks, chapters and numerous articles in industry journals. He teaches facial plastic and reconstruction surgery to resident doctors at Albany Medical Center, has been a Fellowship Director in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery for over 20 years and has mentored hundreds of physicians throughout his career. He also holds the academic appointment of Clinical Professor in the Department of Surgery there. Dr. Williams qualified for the American Medical Association Physician Recognition Award in acknowledgement of his involvement in medical teaching On a personal level his is a devoted husband, father of 4 children who prides himself for always making his family his priority. He loves to push himself and family to get to the next level in life whatever that may be in work or play. He enjoys anything outdoors is a life-long skier, is fascinated by weather, agriculture , energy, the environment and most recently accomplished a life-long dream to become a pilot.
