About

I’m a huge fan of all sorts of horror movies. I have watch it on MyFlixer Movies for Sure, some folks turn their noses up at the really shocking or gory ones, but when they’re crafted well, they can be a blast! Lately, though, I’ve found myself drawn more to stories where the fear comes from within a character—when their deepest fears or desires manifest in the real world—rather than just relying on some external threat that’s meant to be scary.

Take monster movies, for instance. I love a good one where the creature goes completely berserk. But honestly, I know that kind of stuff isn’t real, so it doesn’t really frighten me. On the other hand, when a horror film features a terrifying presence that only the main character can see—something that symbolizes their guilt or trauma—that’s what really gets under my skin. It lingers with me long after the movie ends because it makes me think, “Wow, this could actually happen to me.”

That’s precisely why Control Freak gave me such a scare—it even haunted my dreams!

Shal Ngo’s Control Freak centers around Val, a motivational speaker gearing up for a world tour. But her plans hit a snag when the Chinese authorities request her birth certificate before allowing her entry.

Val goes to visit her Aunt Thuy to see if she has any of her old documents, but her aunt informs her that her father, Sang, is the one who has them. Val’s mother passed away years ago in a boating accident, and she’s always believed that Sang was to blame. Because of this, their relationship has always been strained and distant. It doesn’t help that Sang has become a Buddhist monk—something Val interprets as him trying to dodge his past instead of owning up to it.
