Do’s:

• Keep the belly button clean and dry

• Gently pat dry after bathing

• Fold diaper below the belly button

• Watch for redness, swelling, or discharge

• Use medicines only if prescribed by the doctor

Don’ts:

• Do not apply oil, ghee, turmeric, or powder

• Do not pull the umbilical cord

• Avoid tight clothes or diapers

• Do not use creams or antibiotics without advice

See a doctor if:

• There is foul-smelling discharge or pus

• Redness or swelling increases

• Baby has fever or excessive bleeding
