Julia Ramirez is an advocate, organizer, and cultural producer on the southwest side of Chicago. Trained in Restorative Justice and healing pedagogies, Julia served as the program director for Light in the Night, a multi-organization approach to reducing gun violence throughout the City of Chicago. Julia worked directly with youth and families who are experiencing or have experienced gun violence. Her observations and insight into victimization and crime are shaped by her professional work, her involvement in community organizing and by her own personal experiences with the tragic shooting of her brother. Since 2009, Julia has participated in non violence initiatives on and off campus. She has a Bachelors in Social Work and is a current student in the master of social work program at Northeastern Illinois University. Her work will continue to surround working with victims of violence through the Chicago Public schools systems as a re-engagement specialist.
