Why Your Kids Fight (It's Not What You Think) If your kids are fighting constantly - over toys, whose turn it is, who said what - and nothing you try seems to make a dent, this episode is for you. In this Beyond the Behavior call, I work with parent Stacy, a mom of a 7-year-old and a 12-year-old who are stuck in a cycle of poking, teasing, and even lying to get each other in trouble. She's tried talking to them, stepping in, stepping back - and nothing works. Most parents assume sibling fighting is about whatever they're fighting over. But sibling conflict is usually about something kids want from each other - or from you - that they don't yet know how to ask for directly. Once you can see what's actually causing the fighting, the path forward looks very different. You'll hear why hitting between siblings is often a bid for connection rather than aggression, why stepping back and letting kids "work it out" can backfire when they don't yet have the tools to do that, and how to start building those tools in a way that actually sticks. You'll also learn why the most effective place to start isn't between the kids at all - and how quickly things can shift once you know what to focus on.
