Last week’s show was on the subject of generosity. (If you missed that one, you can catch it here.) But the subject of generosity inevitably leads to the subject of poverty, because the Scriptures repeatedly speak about generosity in relation to caring for the poor. So, that got the LRPN team thinking: Why is there such poverty in America? What is the Church doing about it? What’s the secular world doing? What are we doing right? What are we doing wrong? That line of questions led to this show, the first in a series of episodes on poverty in America. Interestingly, this episode aired on the day which we honor the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, whose “Poor People’s Campaign” is not often remembered or commemorated. Many believe this final campaign on poverty is what pushed Dr. King out of favor in many circles at the time. Indeed, poverty in America has always been a rather contentious subject. There are those who argue that poverty is always the poor person’s fault and those who argue that it’s always society’s fault. Biblically, the issue is not so simple. Sean, Deborah, Troy, and Adrienne break down some statistics of the current state of American poverty, as well as the wide range of reasons and causes. And as usual they back it all up with the Word of God.
