September 5 – November 6, 2021 What Do You Believe About Anthropology? Genesis 1:26-31 Fall 2021: What Do You Believe? Genesis 1:26-31 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his own image,     in the image of God he created them;     male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so. God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day. ﷟HYPERLINK "https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Genesis+1&version=NIV" Anthropology is the study of humanity through the application of biology, cultural studies, archaeology, linguistics, and other social sciences. (National Geographic) CONTEMPORARY ANTHROPOLOGY -SECULAR: Contemporary views of humanity are unashamedly secular in nature and devoid of any sense of transcendent realities. -SELF-CENTERED: Human beings are understood today through the lens of self-understanding, self-awareness, inward solutions, and expressive individualism. -SELECTIVE: Human beings are now viewed as being held captive to social norms and historical realities and we have been “set free” to select our own norms without regard to any acknowledgement of authority or need to be philosophically consistent. -SEDUCTIVE: The stories that emerge from a self-centered, selective, secular anthropology are powerful and often include profound narratives of victimization. CHRISTIAN ANTHROPOLOGY -CREATED: Human beings have been uniquely created by God as male and female in the very Image of God! God is our designer and our authority. -CREATED FOR RELATIONSHIP: God has uniquely equipped us as relational beings to live in relationship with Him and with one another. -CREATED FOR PURPOSEFUL EXISTENCE: We have been designed by God to live purposefully for Him in His creation. -CREATED YET FLAWED: Sin has affected the life of every human and every human institution. -CREATED WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF REDEMPTION: God has provided the answer for our dilemma----Redemption in Jesus Christ! -CREATED FOR ETERNITY: The Image of God secures for us an eternal existence.
