Rhythm Club - Tribute to Brian Eagan

Music

2020-07-19 We're a Winner! 60's SoulI love 60's soul and will always think of Brian when I hear it. This show has some of Brian's favorites, opening with "The Boy From New York City". There are two gems from Lee Dorsey, "Working in a Coalmine" and "Ride Your Pony" and there's some James Brown and Aretha. What's not to like? I decided early that my favorite female Motown singer was Martha Reeves, so I love hearing her in this show. I think Brian's favorite was Mary Wells, much more soulful, but you'll have to wait for another show. This show was probably 90 minutes like most of Brian's WMUA shows, but was recorded on a 60-minute cassette, so it a little wonky at the edges. You'll want to hear Alvin Robinson singing "Something You Got" again and again. The Boy From New York City | The Ad Libs | 1964Candy | The Astors | 1965Baby Workout | Jackie Wilson | 1965One Night Affair | The O'Jays | 1969Quicksand | Martha Reeves & The Vandellas | 1963Look-Ka Py Py | The Meters | 1969You'll Lose A Good Thing | Barbara Lynn | 1962Oo Wee Baby, I Love You | Fred Hughes | 1965Bossa Nova Baby | Tippie & The Clovers | 1962Cool Jerk | The Capitols | 1966We're A Winner | The Impressions | 1967Working In The Coal Mine | Lee Dorsey | 1966Don't Mess Up A Good Thing | Fontella Bass & Bobby McClure | 1965I Wanna Love Him So Bad | The Jelly Beans | 1964Twist and Shout | The Isley Brothers | 1962Papa's Got A Brand New Bag | James Brown | 1965Evil Gal Blues | Aretha Franklin | 1964Ride Your Pony | Lee Dorsey | 1966(I'm A) Roadrunner | Junior Walker & the Allstars  | 1965The Love Of My Man | Theola Kilgore | 1963That's Enough | Roscoe Robinson | 1965Something You Got | Alvin Robinson | 1964
