The plot of 'Despicable Me 4' revolves around the metamorphosis of former supervillain Gru into a covert operative, who has to face off against his bitter rival Maxime Le Mal following Le Mal's release from prison. To secure their safety, Gru, his family, and the obedient minions are forced to take on new identities and move to a new town. A number of parallel narratives that struggle to connect coherently are brought in by the introduction of a new villain, Poppy, who complicates the plot by blackmailing Gru into taking part in a heist.
