On this weekly episode, Progress Theory is the idea that people are motivated by taking steps forward on a consistent basis even if those steps are relatively small in the big picture. This is very true in my time in the US Army during the days of Basic Training, it made me reflect on my children and how I could ask them to clean up but after picking up one thing they would want me to look. After a few words of affirmation, they would happily go back to cleaning. If we have always done things a certain way, it can be difficult to identify a better way to get things done. An outsider's perspective can breathe fresh life and insight into our thinking. In fact, it often takes someone with a different point of view to recognize opportunities for change and strategic advantage. Their perspective can help us to draw different meanings and conclusions from the same set of facts. Lastly, Backward Planning is a process that educators use to design learning experiences and instructional techniques to achieve specific learning goals. One of the biggest factors that determine whether we are successful is effective time management. Without great time management, failure is common. Backward planning lets us know when we need to get started, and also gives timing points along the way to let us know if we need to adjust our plan in order to things done when.
