She was excited because her friend was coming over later to work on a school project. Her mother, Margaret "Meg" Occhi, had left for work around 7:30 a.m. Leigh was home alone, which was normal for her.By 8:45 a.m., Meg had tried calling home twice. No answer. This worried her because Leigh was supposed to be there waiting for her friend. Meg left work and drove home. When she arrived, she found the front door unlocked—which was unusual—and discovered blood in multiple places: on the bathroom door, in the hallway, and throughout the house.
