Hollow Knight: Silksong takes us beyond the fallen ruins of Hallownest and into the vast, vertical, and haunted kingdom of Pharloom. It’s a land ruled entirely by silk, song, and ancient divine power. Over the years, the world of Pharloom has stood as one of the most mesmerizing dark fantasy settings in gaming, constructed upon towering spires, industrialized undercities, and solemn pilgrim trails. From the mysterious exodus of the ancient Weavers and their silk-spun magic, to the golden melody that enchants the minds of travelers, the dark affliction known as the Haunting, and the hidden masters residing at the Citadel summit, the lore woven throughout this upward kingdom is staggeringly deep. In this slow and relaxing deep-dive, we’re exploring the entire lore and history of Pharloom, tracing the kingdom’s origins, its social hierarchy, and the truth behind Hornet’s perilous ascent. We’ll revisit the ancient history of the Weavers, examine the religious pilgrimage binding the inhabitants, and uncover the shadowy forces pulling the strings at the heart of the kingdom. What ancient catastrophe led the Weavers to flee Pharloom and seek refuge in the darkness of Deepnest? What is the true nature of the melody that compels pilgrims to climb toward their own demise? How did the Citadel construct its towering empire of bells, clockwork, and steam over the bones of older civilizations? And what does Hornet’s presence mean for the delicate, fragile balance of this divine order? From the mossy silence of the lowest grottoes and the fiery furnaces of the deep docks, to the shimmering, brass-adorned chambers of the Citadel, we’ll slowly journey through the environmental storytelling, ancient tablets, character histories, and expansive lore that make Pharloom such an unforgettable rabbit hole. Some legends are beautifully melodic. Some are quietly tragic. And some reveal the terrifying price paid to maintain a golden kingdom.
