How do you balance a passion for writing with paying the mortgage? Do you make a living from writing after you get a publishing deal? What does it feel like to finally hold a published book with your name on it in your hand?I ask all these questions and more in this series, talking to successful authors and trying to unearth the secret to staying sane while chasing that elusive book deal.I am Anna Caig, an aspiring crime fiction author. At the moment I am looking for an agent and publisher for my first novel, while also writing my second and trying to balance it all with life’s other essential activities.In this episode I speak to Joanne Burn, a Peak District-based author and writing coach whose debut novel, Petals and Stones, was published in 2018. It is a book that manages to be both thoughtful and gripping and which gets off the blocks at 100 mph as the main character discovers her husband is having an affair, and then straight away discovers he is also dead.
