Statement of Need It has been estimated that 29% if people misuse prescription pain relievers for chronic pain; and between 8-12% develop a use disorder.  In 2017 the Department of Human and Health Services declared opioid crisis a public emergency and Kentucky is one of the leading states in abuse in the US. Based on these statistics most providers have or will encounter a patient in their practice with SUD and therefore recognition and management is key for optimal patient outcomes. Objectives At the conclusion of this offering, the participant will be able to: Define substance use disorders (SUD) and including the biology of SUD. Discuss the risk factors and red flags of SUD.
