Chisholm's political life in the film gives little attention to her early career as a teacher and activist advocating for equal rights. During those formative years, she struggled to have her voice heard as a woman of color. However, the movie hastily covers her most significant political accomplishments - up to her historic election as the first Black woman in Congress in just two brief montages and a rushed block party scene. While the cinematography artfully captures the era's sociopolitical climate that shaped Chisholm's groundbreaking campaign, the film fails to adequately portray the adversity and perseverance that paved her path to the U.S. House of Representatives.
