Story of Rishi Pippalad

Religion & Spirituality

In this epsiode, we narrate the tale of Sage Pippalad, son of Sage Dadhichi, whose bones became Indra's weapon, the Vajra. Orphaned when his mother Lopamudra gave up her life, the boy was raised by the peepal trees that sheltered him, and strengthened by the nectar of Chandra, the lord of trees.

On learning of his parents' fate, Pippalad blamed the gods and sought revenge — until a boon from Lord Shiva produced a horse-like demon that turned on Pippalad himself, teaching him that his own body was born of the gods. A story of anger, wisdom and reconciliation, best enjoyed with our Devgatha episode on Sage Dadhichi as its prequel.
