Some of The White Stripes to open, is it chill if I sing songs, poorly, to open the show? I've done it to poor Johnny Cash twice now... This episode I talk about the oddly nice weather we've had, frolfing due to this cake icing of a warm week, the election, my efforts towards mindfulness this week, we play some more etymology game woowoo, and the topic this episode is a book called The Worm at The Core. This book prescribes the terror management theory to us as the way we are able to live with the fact that we will die. Cultural beliefs and your self esteem, based on your standing in those beliefs, help us find meaning in life and give us existential motivation. The ideas in this book also shed some light on our fears and even disgust of "the other" by expanding upon the idea of opposing cultural beliefs. The Worm at The Core adds new insights and experimental date to ideas crystalized by Ernest Becker. This was a great read that really had an impact on me. Hope you enjoy and let me know what you think!
