Hi guys, Jessica here! Following on from last week's episode, Matt, Steve, and I continue our conversation about coming out. Steve shares his experience coming out and some of the lessons he learned, and things he could have done differently. One important piece of advice we talk about is why you should manage your expectations of the response you will get from people. The best way to go about this is to give people time and space to process the new information. Remember, this is affecting them as much as it is affecting you. This way, they are not fumbling with words at that moment and saying something they don’t mean to say. Eventually, some mutual understanding and mutual acceptance will develop.Tune in to hear some of the tips we have for you as you prepare to come out and advice from Steve’s perspective.Key Takeaways- Keeping your relationship fun (07:51)- How to manage your expectations of people (15:43)- Giving people time to catch up to where you are (20:14)- Getting to mutual understanding and acceptance (22:08)- Don’t put a lot of stock in someone’s initial response (25:27)- Don’t chase immediate acceptance (27:43)- The emotions people go through when people come out (31:51)- Avoid overanalyzing every response you get (34:45)- If you are gay- just come out (38:51)Additional Resources:TICKETS FOR OUR LIVE EVENT CAN BE PURCHASED NOW!!!!
