In September of 1988, a man discovered the body of a woman who was thought to be between the ages of 22-35. An autopsy was performed, confirming that she was in fact a woman, but were unable to provide the cause of death as she was too decomposed. She was unrecognizable, but a sketch was produced and shown around. With a lack of leads, quickly the case went cold. It wasn’t reopened until 2015 when issues with the techniques used to gather DNA at the time came to light. A reexamination of her case, and body revealed that their Jane Doe had in fact been born a male. Gender reassignment and hormone therapy were very rare at the time, which made this case even more peculiar.
