In 2018, with Earth's destruction imminent, governments take decisive action, evacuating world leaders and relocating them to the International Moon Base. For a desperate population, confectionary giant Mars hastily organise a global raffle, offering seats on board self-sufficient, twin-manned interplanetary resettlement capsules ('recaps') in the hope of finding hospitable planets in far flung corners of the galaxy.
