The focus of today's program is sea lamprey. Lampreys are an eel-like fish considered an invasive species in Lake Superior and the Great Lakes. Researchers estimate about one hundred and four thousand lampreys are swimming around in Lake Superior. Lamprey control costs millions of dollars every year.

Minnesota Sea Grant has teamed up with the “best radio station in Minnesota” – KUMD, to produce Listening to the Lake. The show’s goal is to keep listeners in touch with what’s going on with one of the most beloved aspects of the local environment – Lake Superior. Science-based information is the focus of the series.
