Academic education is not the be-all and end-all of success. Sometimes, a sheer determination can take a person a long way, which is exactly what Ricky Blair experienced. Blair left school at 16 and immediately started working. He then started a real estate company in London, which won awards and became a subject of a bidding war among big-box real estate companies. “I had this burning desire to prove the school system wrong and demonstrate that you could succeed even if you failed an education system,” Blair told us in our latest podcast. Blair also founded Platform Seven, a business coaching consultancy that aims to help young individuals unlock their potential in business and in life. The goal is to teach people ideas and principles that they don’t learn in school. It’s also his way of giving back considering how important mentoring was for him when he started out in the real estate business. “It was huge for me,” Blair said about mentorship. “It saves time. It prevents you from making mistakes.” Blair has a term for his mentorship program: success therapy. This didn’t just work in real estate, but for businesses across the board.
