Robert Pattinson plays Mickey Barnes, who offers to be a "expendable" for a colonization expedition to the planet Niflheim in 2054. He is given the most dangerous assignments because of this distinction, and every time he dies, he is cloned. He encounters "Mickey 18" when he returns to the spacecraft, and complications develop when his 17th clone survives an encounter with a "alien," something his friends are unaware of. The ensemble cast includes Toni Collette as Mickey's evil wife Ylfa, Steven Yeun as Timo, his friend and pilot, Mark Ruffalo as the mission's evil leader and politically driven character Kenneth Marshall, Naomi Ackie as Mickey's girlfriend and security agent Nasha, and Anamaria Vartolomei as Kai Katz.
