Welcome to the world of Kids' TV and Me! In our first episode, we examine a rather unique episode of Reading Rainbow, My America, which aired in 2001 (with some editing errors. It was fixed and re-aired soon after). This is the first of many episodes I have on VHS that my mom recorded for me when I was three. Join me as I tell you how I memorized 49 of the 50 states as a toddler (and why I didn't know Maine existed until later), and how I first learned about one of the largest malls in the United States. Does this unusual episode, featuring LeVar Burton in a chroma key studio setting instead of on location, still hold up today? Is it one of the weirdest episodes of the series, or one of the all-time greats? Let's find out together!
