RAYDER REPORT: The Week That Was (March 14-20) Hey Sportsfans! So, Coronavirus has decimated every sporting event on the plan and the sports community is feeling it. We catch up with UK sports commentator Nick Heath, who’s graduated from commentating on the Six Nations and Gallagher Premiership to riveting real-life events ;-) We also turn to this week’s local football drama regarding the PSL. While sports minister Nathi Mthethwa on Tuesday permitted the PSL to go ahead behind closed doors, SAFA president Danny Jordaan confirmed Wednesday that no local football would take place until April 4. Rayder Media also caught up with CSA interim CEO Jacques Faul, who has urged the cricketing fraternity to act responsibly during this time of crisis, cancelling all cricketing activity for the next 60 days. Meanwhile, among the myriad of sporting events that have been cancelled or postponed, including Euro 2020 and the PGA Championship, there’s been no word on the Tokyo Olympics, scheduled to begin late July. In other news, it’s the end of an era for North America’s NFL. SuperBowl winner Tom Brady has left the New England Patriots after 20 seasons with the team. Brady is expected join the Tampa Bay Buccanneers, trading his beloved Gillette stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts for sunnier Florida skies. And last (but certainly not least), with all major sporting events cancelled until Corona blows over, offbeat Internet sensation the Sand Marble Rally has gained significantly in popularity among sportsfans. Naturally, Rayder was around to watch Dragon Egg claim victory at the death at this year’s championship. For all this and more, tune in to this week’s edition of the Rayder Report.
