Today I had the pleasure and honour to interview JT McCormick (CEO of Scribe Media). JT is a true hustler. Looking at the challenges and trauma that JT faced as a child you would believe that he had every reason NOT to succeed. JT was born the mixed-race son of a drug-dealing pimp father and a orphaned, single mother on welfare. He was raised in the slums of Dayton, Ohio, suffered incredible abuse and racism, and had multiple stints in the juvenile justice system. He barely graduated high school and has no college degree. Starting by scrubbing toilets, JT hustled and worked his way into better opportunities, eventually finding incredible success in the banking and mortgage industry. He was on top of the world. And then the mortgage industry fell apart. He lost his job, and literally all of his money. He had to borrow from his friends to make rent. He was nearly back to where he started: with nothing. But this time, he had something that he did not have growing up in the slums of Dayton: the knowledge of what it takes to succeed. JT used this setback combined with what he learned as the springboard for him to reach even bigger heights--eventually becoming President of two multimillion-dollar companies.Currently, JT is the President and CEO of Scribe Media. He lives in Austin, Texas, with his wife, Megan, and their four children; Ava, Jaxon, Elle and Jace. How to connect with JT…LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jtmccormick/Website: https://jtmccormick.com/Time Stamps…02:22 – What did JT want to be when he grew up?06:52 – Never wanting to be in a position of life never knowing what to do at the age of 8.09:25 – Writing book for JT’s children and his children’s response to JT’s story.12:15 – JT’s parents and growing up as a child.14:20 – JT’s mother, the first 9 years of JT’s life.16:35 – JT’s view on women.18:15 – How to trust women after being sexually abused by women.20:15 – Not seeing himself as a Victim. 22:05 – Mindset on how to deal with Trauma. 23:10 – Not speaking to father for 30 years before he died and what would JT say? 25:30 – Drug dealers have an entrepreneurial mindset.27:20 – Drug dealers and pharmaceuticals.30:08 – Seeing the first $1M come through.31:28 – Being negative broke and how JT rebuilt himself.37:08 – How to scale a business.38:00 – No-one talks about the Sacrifice that goes into success.40:54 – JT’s definition of success.41:38 – How JT became the CEO of Scribe Media.47:30 – How can start up’s hire an expert with little money.50:51 – Advice to Millennials & Gen Z’s.51:50 – The 3 words that JT has eliminated from his vocabulary.56:03 – What does JT do when he deals with challenges.57:25 – What JT would want his children to say about their father.59:43 – 1 lesson learned from JT’s childhood.01:01:58 – What impact does JT want to have on the world?
