Novocaine HuraWatch opens with the introduction of Nathan Caine, the world's least likely action hero. As an assistant manager at a bank, Nate is a gently nice man who adheres to a rigorous daily routine that involves cooking lunch and smoothies for breakfast. He had a courageous but protected upbringing because he was born with CIPA, a dangerous ailment that reduces life expectancy because it causes the inability to feel pain or even temperature. In other words, Nate's crush on Sherry, a new employee, is the most exciting thing in his life, and he lives in a metaphorical bubble of protection.
