Welcome to the Fantasy Sports Collective Podcast hosted by JayDubb. This is part 2 of a two-part series examining the lessons and learnings from a champion through interviews with a coach and players more than 25 years later. The interviews were conducted during a reunion of the undefeated Palo Alto high 1993 state champion hoops team this past holiday. I was able to interview coach Weaver (part 1) and nine team members (those that joined the reunion) asking each what lessons they learned and have deployed in their life over the past two decades. This group is remarkable for nothing more than being a collection of advantaged, hard-working, fortunate to have been born and grown up in such a special place. This team was recognized in the US Congress by US Rep Anna Eshoo for academic and athletic achievement (31-0; average margin of victory was 27 points). We’ve all gone on to have families, we’re seemingly all fulfilled, doing work we’re proud of, and outstanding role models by being who we are, nothing more and nothing less. What you’ll hear is a collection of the values we learned, the friendships we formed, and the bond we created that no matter how much time has passed, binds us together. I hope you enjoy these quick interviews with members of that team asking them what the experience taught them, what they remember, and how it’s impacted their lives. I also want to acknowledge those that weren’t able to participate but nonetheless are all important parts of the experience and journey, those are Grant Elliott, Mikey Smith, Boyd Smith, Dave Bennion, Von Sumner, and Ryan Derby. Now that time has passed since the reunion event and I’ve had time to reflect. I’m appreciative and grateful that I had this experience. Note this was recorded during the holidays, months before COVID-19 had griped us all.
