Miscellaneous

Just over 50 years ago two educators from two very different worlds decided their worlds needed to come together.  Dr. Sydney Boose of Norfolk State College and Harold Kenney, the assistant superintendent of New Canaan, Connecticut Schools, decided to bring black student teachers from Norfolk State to predominately white, affluent New Canaan.  The Norfolk State students would live with host families and teach in New Canaan schools. News 3’s “The New Canaan Experiment” chronicled the students’ time in New Canaan.  The documentary won a Peabody Award. Now, News 3 revisits the documentary, many of the people involved, and how The New Canaan Experiment shaped lives for both the teachers and those who were involved in New Canaan.
