Today’s chat takes us to the Middle East where we meet Nasrin Noon. Nasrin was diagnosed with Lupus two years. Lupus is a chronic auto immune disease. To put it simply lupus is like having a war with yourself. In a normal instance when you get an infection, or cold or any invader that does not belong in the body - your immune system gathers the white blood cells together to fight the bad cells. In a Lupus scenario your immune system recognises the perfectly healthy cells as bad cells and it attacks it. Normally to treat this in a typical instance you would take medication to boost your immune system but this is a no-no for lupus because when the immune is over active it is a thriving ground for attack so those with the diagnosis have to suppress the immune system by having medication such as chemotherapy and cortisone but when the immune system is suppressed the white blood cells are almost non existent so you are in the middle of a battle that are defenceless in. It can be fatal if it attacks the organs to the point of no return. It is a complex condition that requires continues funding to research and find the best treatments for this condition. Wondering what the experience is of a lupus warrior from Iran? Well take a seat, buckle up and listen. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/zola-brunner/message
