John the Baptist was 'preparing the way of the Lord,' baptizing sinners for repentance... when out of "No-where" (Nazareth), here He came! And He didn't show up on the scene just to watch. And He didn't go down in the water to take over John's job either. Rather our great God came to the Greatest Man (John) to be baptized, to go down into the cleansing waters! This was too much. It just didn't make any sense to cousin John. Shouldn't he be the one baptized by The One?! Today's passage is full of wonder. God's grace is often so full, that it is too much for finite creatures like us to wrap our minds around. While we may not be able to exhaust the Infinite grace and glory of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit as they appear in our passage today, our efforts will be worth every brain cell! Join us today in Matthew's Gospel for the Son's baptism, the Spirit's resting place, and the Father's pleasure.
