While in college, she joined the Prison Action Milwaukee activist group, where she continues to volunteer in behalf of prisoners and ex prisoners humane rights. Her goal of becoming a lawyer sent her to Houston, Texas. She attended the Texas Southern University's Thurgood Marshall Law School, before realizing that her passion was in creative writing.
