Joaquin Phoenix turns in an impressive performance in an otherwise middle of the road picture that has (and ultimately doesn't deserve) a bevy of media buzz, praise, and criticism directed at it. Beyond a near Oscar worthy showing, it is a film that does nothing, says nothing, and has so many missed opportunities to revive the character and give insight to his twisted mind.
