As Neolithic age ended then began the Copper age. Our ancestors began to use metal. That laid the foundation of urban civilization for us humans. While discussing the history of the copper age, normally the history of Indus civilization, the Arctic civilization or the Egyptian civilization is narrated. However, at the same time, a similar civilization was rapidly growing on the soil of Bengal.

নিওলিথিক যুগের শেষে কপার এজ বা তাম্র যুগ শুরু হয়। এই সময়, মানুষ ধাতু ব্যবহার করা শিখতে শুরু করে। তাই দিয়েই আমাদের জীবনে নগর সভ্যতার ভিত্তি স্থাপন হয়। পৃথিবীতে কপার এজ-এর নগর সভ্যতার ইতিহাস নিয়ে আলোচনা করলে, সাধারণত সিন্ধু সভ্যতা, সুমেরু সভ্যতা অথবা মিশরীয় সভ্যতা নিয়ে আলোচনা হয়। অথচ, ঠিক একই সময়ে বাঙলার এই মাটিতেও নগর সভ্যতা তরতর করে বাড়ছিল। সেই সময়ে বাঙলার মাটিতে তামার পরিমাণ ভারতের অন্যান্য জায়গার তুলনায় বেশি পাওয়া যেত বলেই আমাদের বাংলায় এই সভ্যতার উন্নতি তাায়েম করতে পেরেছিল.
