Society & Culture
I would. like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land this podcast was made on. The Jagera and Turrbal people of Meanjin Brisbane. Sovereignty was never ceded. This episode is part one of a two part series on racism. In this first episode, I speak to Proud Wakka Wakka and Yuin woman Alexis Moran on Australia's culture of casual racism. We unpack why it took the death of a Black man in America to spark a movement here in Australia, the Black Lives Matter movement, black squares on instagram and activism as a trend, and why celebrating Australia Day is problematic and disrespectful to our First Nation Peoples. I wanted to bring you stories from both sides of the world. To show people that it doesn’t “only happen in America” (I’m talking to you Prime Minister Morrison, claiming slavery never happened in Australia). Injustice is happening everywhere, and if you don’t agree, you may need to check your privilege. Grab a seat, you need to hear this very important Convo. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/convo-radio/message
