When I Lived There

Society & Culture

In the third episode of When I Lived There, podcast host Jen Miller interviews Iranian-American Shaul Bakhash about his life in Iran. Shaul was born in Tehran in 1936 to a family of Jewish merchants. He studied abroad in America and the United Kingdom, graduating from Harvard and getting a PhD from Oxford. He worked as a journalist for most of his professional career in Iran, with a brief stint as a university professor toward the end of his time living there. Shaul would remain in Iran to see both the downfall of the Shah and the Islamic Revolution. He recently retired from George Mason University where he was a professor of history.
