We have all been there when we absolutely bust our ass to give the best possible treatment and go above and beyond for the client, only to have them turn around and say "this treatment isn't working." It can make you want to scream or even call the client out for not following the process, doing stupid shit in-between appointments, or living in a fantasy world that a complex injury could magically be solved in a few visits. Dealing with humans, especially those that are injured, in pain, shortsighted, and in all honesty very delusional about their current state of health can really mess with your mind. It seems that we care more about the client's well-being than they do and that shit can cause you to doubt your own skills and conviction about what you do. I had an instance this week with a client, who based on my functional tests and improvements is doing so much better, but when I asked how the injury was doing they responded back with, "about the same." Luckily I have seen and dealt with this a lot over my 11 years in practice and thought this would be a great opportunity to help others be better equipped to handle when the client is being a short-sighted and delusional person! I hope you enjoy the show. I made a reference in the podcast about a past episode on handling when a client tells you what to do treatment wise, the link is below?
