Five years ago today I lost my dad Fred to a pain-pill overdose at the age of 58. It was absolutely the worst day of my life, but nothing compared to the horrors my dad went through. That day, and the years leading up to it completely transformed my views of the medical model and where conservative care was failing people every day. I don't have a day pass where I don't think about what happened to my dad, how much he suffered, and how his life and dignity were stripped from him by the nightmare system that is our current medical model.
