“God will give you whatever you want” -  UnBiblical Things that Christians Believe: Captivated For Christ Episode 13 God will give you whatever you want right? After all, doesn’t the Bible say that God will give you the desires of your heart? Actually, although that’s what the Psalmist said in Psalm 37:4, that’s not what the author of the Psalm meant. When you look at the entire scope of the Bible and know about God’s character, you can clearly see that God doesn’t just give you whatever you want all the time. He does however answer prayer, because Jesus promises, “Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours” (Mark 11:24). What do I mean by this, then be sure to listen to the 13th episode of the “Captivated For Christ” podcast where I discuss the unbiblical phrase, “God will give you whatever you want”. Special thanks to HookSounds for providing the music for the intro and outro: https://www.hooksounds.com/ More special thanks to Benjamin Wise for creating the photo for this episode.  Notes from today’s show: Why is this phrase UnBiblical? God is not a genie Sometimes what we want, are not ultimately what God wants for us. Our desires can be selfish. (James 4:3) What is the Biblical Truth? When we follow Christ,  he changes the desires of our hearts. (Psalm 37:4) If we need anything, ask for it in faith and God will provide ( Mark 11:24, Matthew 6:33) We must ask according to the will of God ( 1 John 5:14) We must follow Christ and do what he commands. (1 John 3:22) We must ask God for good things, such as wisdom, the Holy Spirit, and for great things to be done in his name. (Luke 11:13)  Scriptures used in today’s episode: James 4:3, Psalm 37:4, Mark 11:24, Matthew 6:33, 1 John 5:14, 1 John 3:22, Luke 11:13, Matthew 6:9-13. All verses are from the New American Standard Version of the Bible. Ministry of the week: YWAM Discipleship Training School The Discipleship Training School (YWAM DTS) seeks to bring you into a more intimate relationship with God.
