Meet musician and composer Andreas Poupazis, who studied music at the University of Sunderland, and hear the journey behind his piece of music, “Wearmouth’s Stories” - inspired by the Wearmouth Bridge - its ties to shipbuilding, how it connects people, and how it's endured throughout history. Andreas composed this piece as the winning entry to a competition celebrating 18 years of the Sunderland Symphony Orchestra. Supported by Arts Council England, their project “Coming of Age” invited new, emerging composers, like Andreas, to submit their compositions - and was performed at ‘Proms at the Point’ in Sunderland. Poupazis is also a David Puttnam Scholar, having worked as music composer alongside various other film production students on a film about an asylum seeker living in Sunderland - which we discuss in detail.
