Millions protested following the horrific death of George Floyd, fed up with the treatment of black people all over the globe. Black Lives Matter becoming a campaign message to end oppression based on skin colour.Australia's protest focused on 434 deaths of indigenous people whilst in custody, since 1991. "I can't breathe" screamed on our own shores as David Dungay was killed after being restrained by prison guards in Long Beach correctional facility. We look at the issues surrounding the deaths of 434 Indigenous Australians to try and understand why things have not changed since the Royal Commission into Aboriginal deaths in custody in 1991. Our conclusion: Our First Nations people simply have not been afforded the same opportunities as white Australia. The core of the issue being the sheer disadvantage that our indigenous people have and a systemic racism towards our First People.
