Arts
A recording of the conversation between Marsil Andjelov Al-Mahamid, Katriina Pedersen and Charis Gullickson on embroidery, culture, and tradition as part of the finishing weekend for Artist: Britta Marakatt-Labba. Marakatt-Labba's art is deeply embedded in Sámi culture, tradition, and mythology, and was a framework for the conversation. Marsil is a Syrian-Serbian interdisiplinary artist who often uses embroidery in his vivid and often political art. He has lived in Tromsø since 2009. Katriina is a visual anthropologist, a Kven language consultant and an avid emboiderer. Katrinna and Marsil have worked together on a Kven Connection project. Charis is a curator at Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum, and has worked a lot with art and projects like Britta Marakatt-Labba. She has few to none embroidery skills.
