Find Your Calm - When Your Kids are Not

Find Your Calm

Miscellaneous

Sometimes your kids are expressing themselves in ways that challenge our own selves. Today, I am going to talk about one way that I practice finding calm when my 2 or 5 year old is expressing themselves aka having a tantrum (or a Trantrum - get it?! LOL) I'm not a fan of the word tantrum. I prefer to see it as challenging emotions, or not being able to fully express the emotion of what is happening in the moment. This releases the negative association with tantrum and brings about a more compassionate approach.  When you begin to notice your child is starting to cry, or going into the pancake floor flop, this practice will ask you to stop what you are doing, shut the hell up (cause no one wants to get into the anger zone) and sit on the floor or chair and breathe. It's about not letting your reactionary emotions take over.  It's about cultivating and tuning into your deepest self and create that space and sense of calm. While your kids are expressing themselves, you will practice 'calm' through breath. Try it for 5 minutes. For the next 7 days, this is my practice for you. What did you learn?
