In Her Own Words: Mayella Mayella came to this country as a young girl, and she recalls having a debate about abortion in English class, and being on the side of life. Six years later, she was at Planned Parenthood, pregnant and faced with a choice that she wishes she never had to make. ‘I chose to end the only life that I would ever carry in my womb.’ ‘That was my only child.’ Guest: Becky Becky was 18 and in college when she discovered she was pregnant. Her boyfriend did not want a child and Becky felt that it wasn’t a good time in her life to have a child. After her abortion, the devastation began. Years later, she came to terms with her abortion when a visually impaired friend took her on a tour of Boston and right through a demonstration where they were showing aborted babies. She saw her child in those pictures and had to face what she had done. Becky also talks about the effort to ban abortion in South Dakota. She quotes Thomas Jefferson in saying ‘If we are more concerned about our privileges than our principles, we will lose them both.’
