Episode 64 | When Words Just Aren't Enough: Understanding Art Therapy
Society & Culture
What happens when we don't have the words to explain how we're feeling? And what does a Taylor Swift song have to do with things? On this episode of Say Again, author & founder Amrita Tripathi speaks with Aditi Kaul, Lead Arts-Based Therapist at the Fortis National Mental Health Program, about expressive arts therapy and how art, music, movement, and writing can sometimes help where talk therapy just doesn't cut it. No surprise that a lot of adults seem to need 'permission' to play and carry a lot of pressure about 'not being good enough' at art. Kaul talks Lego, collage, music and yes, about a Taylor Swift song that not only helped break the ice, but led a young person to articulate what she was going through... and gave hope.
This is a conversation about creativity, mental health, therapy, technology, identity — and the importance of doing the work ourselves. Kaul also shares her de-stress tips and why she thinks of child-life balance no longer work-life balance.
