Lohri is a popular Punjabi folk festival that is celebrated every year in India. Lohri celebration is marked with bonfires in a public area with many people gathering around where they throw sesame seeds, jaggery, sugar-candy etc in the bonfire and have a hearty celebration with family. The theme of many folk songs of this festival is Dulla Bhatti, a man who lived in Punjab during the reign of Mughal Emperor Akbar and was regarded as a hero in Punjab for rescuing girls from being forcibly taken to be sold in the slave market.
