She grew up struggling with asthma and allergies, and taking pills, liquid medications and inhalers to manage the symptoms. Even though Whitney never got better taking the medications, all of her faith and trust was endowed upon the medical field. Until it wasn’t. In her early 20s, while still struggling with the symptoms of allergies and asthma (and taking the prescribed medications that went along with those conditions), she began to have panic attacks. Never fear, Xanax is here! Later on, after the birth of her daughter, she began having skin flares and was diagnosed with psoriasis. The dermatologist’s answer? Steroid creams! In her mid-thirties came a diagnosis of interstitial cystitis (an inflammatory bladder condition). The urologist’s answer? Surgery! Powerful pain medications! “Join a support group, ‘cause you’re stuck with this for life Babe!” That was the breaking point for Whitney. The point at which she decided to take her health into her own hands and investigate how her symptoms were connected, and what was at the root of all her maladies. In this episode, Whitney talks about what she learned, the steps she took, and the changes made to bring her body back into balance. She learned that symptoms are not the problem, but rather, the body’s way of telling you that something is out of balance.
