http://sportsthemepod.tumblr.com/ Episode 1 of the SportsTheme Podcast is my interview with Dr. Lori Martin of Louisiana State University (LSU). We discuss her perspectives on the NCAA unpaid amateur athlete model, her article American (Un)Civil Religion, the Defense of the White Worker, and Responses to NFL Protests, and the book chapter she co authored with Dr. Stephen Finley and Dr. Biko Mandela Gray The White Worker as the Quintessential Angry American apart of their book Race, Affect, and Religion in the Religion of White Rage. Dr Martin is a professor of Sociology and African and African American Studies at LSU-- her full bio can be found here https://www.lsu.edu/hss/sociology/people/faculty/faculty_profiles_new_2018/martin_lori.php. Since we first recorded, Dr. Martin also sent me a more recent article about Serena Williams titled Double Fault: Serena Williams and Tennis at the Intersection of Race and Gender. Another recent collaboration between Dr. Martin, Dr. Finley, and Dr. Gray was the article in AAUP Vol 10 Endangered and Vulnerable: The Black Professoriate, Bullying, and the Limits of Academic Freedom.
